Rayalaseema Projects Start Getting Krishna Water Early This Year

Tungabhadra Dam authorities said they are maintaining the reservoir level at 78 TMC feet. Presently, they are discharging 38,760 cusecs from the reservoir into the dependent canals of HLMC and LLC, apart from the river downstream.

Anantapur: Most of the reservoirs in Krishna basin, the major source of water for Rayalaseema region, have reached their full storage capacity following constant inflows from upstream regions.

Srisailam Reservoir received heavy inflows of 1.42 lakh cusecs on Wednesday, with outflows being 1.17 lakh cusecs towards Nagarjunasagar.

As a result, the storage at Srisailam Reservoir is being maintained at 209.16 TMC feet, translating to 96.92 per cent at 883.2 feet of total 885 feet. A major beneficiary of this is Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project, the key source of water for Rayalaseema region. HNSS is getting inflows through pumping of Srisailam’s backwaters.

Through the Handri Neeva main canal, Krishna water reached the Jeedipalli Reservoir in Belaguppa mandal of Anantapur district on Tuesday. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu released this water last week from Malyala in Nandyal district.

The HNSS water will reach Kuppam in Chittoor district in a few days after flowing through Penukonda and Kadiri areas of Satya Sai district as part of the HNSS project Phase I. The widening of HNSS main canal towards Jeedipalli has increased inflows to more than 300 cusecs.

Finance minister Payyavula Kesav inspected the canal at Uravakonda on Wednesday. He declared that the entire Rayalaseema will get enough water for both drinking and irrigation purposes.

Meanwhile, Tungabhadra river water has reached the borders of Anantapur district through the High Level Main Canal, following the water in Hospet reservoir in Karnataka reaching the full storage level. Following this, Rayadurg MLA and government whip Kalava Srinivasulu released water to the summer storage tank of Kanekal after performing pooja.
