Rapthadu Attack: Accused Condition Stable, May Require Amputation In Right Leg

Anantapur Government General Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rajeswari said that Hemanth, the accused involved the Rapthadu attack on a 10th Class student was responding to treatment.

Anantapur: District Government General Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rajeswari said that Hemanth, the accused involved the Rapthadu attack on a 10th Class student who was shot by police while allegedly trying to escape, is responding to treatment. Speaking to the media on Monday about the health update she said that doctors are currently assessing the possibility of amputating his right leg from above the knee.

Hemanth was tracked down in the Atmakur forest area after a manhunt. According to police officials, the team fired six rounds when he attempted to evade arrest and escape into the forest. He sustained bullet wounds and was shifted to the Anantapur Government General Hospital for treatment.
Dr. Rajeswari said Hemanth, was admitted at around 8:30 am in critical condition due to severe blood loss. He was in shock, and doctors immediately arranged three units of blood and provided emergency treatment. After initial stabilisation, he was shifted to the Emergency Operation Theatre, where general surgeons and orthopaedic specialists attended to him.
“At present, the patient is on oxygen support through a mask and does not require ventilator support,” the superintendent said. His condition has improved and he is responding well to treatment. He is conscious, able to respond to doctors and identify himself. His blood pressure, pulse rate and breathing are currently normal.
However, Hemanth has sustained severe injuries to both lower limbs and doctors conducted CT scans, MRI and an angiogram to assess the blood supply to the legs. The examinations showed reduced blood circulation in both legs, with the right leg more severely affected than the left. According to the general surgeon, the possibility of amputation, particularly of the right leg above the knee, is being assessed , she said.
The final decision will be taken during surgery after the surgeons examine the extent of the damage. Doctors are also evaluating whether spinal or general anaesthesia would be more suitable for the procedure. The medical team is closely monitoring Hemanth’s condition she stated.
