Vijayawada: An engineering student was raped and then blackmailed with her photographs, as per a case filed by the girl with Nandigama Rural police station on Sunday.
The 19-year-old BTech student was residing in a hostel in Paritala and doing her second year at an engineering college in Kanchikacherla in NTR district. A series of incidents took place near Kanchikacherla in recent days, the complaint noted.
Police said, "She was close to her classmate Prabhu Kumar (21). They often went to restaurants. One day, Prabhu Kumar introduced his friend Hussain to the girl. Days later, Hussain started pursuing her in the name of love. The victim went with Hussain for lunch once."
Noticing this, Shaik Gali Saida (25) from the same area, who works as a painter, befriended the girl. He often told her that Hussain was a bad character and that she must stay away from him.
On January 12, Saida called the girl to his house, saying she must take part in a function. When the girl arrived there, Saida was alone at home. He sexually assaulted the girl and took her obscene photographs and videos. He later shared those with Hussain and Prabhu.
Subsequently, Hussain and Prabhu started blackmailing the girl and demanding sexual favours. Unable to endure the harassment, the girl approached the police and lodged a complaint. Police said they registered a case and started an investigation.
