VIJAYAWADA: Vangaveeti Asha Kiran, daughter of former Vijayawada leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, on Saturday appealed to the Andhra Pradesh government to name a district after her father and construct a memorial ghat on the banks of the Krishna River where his last rites were performed.
Paying floral tributes to Ranga on his 79th birth anniversary in Vijayawada, Asha Kiran said a permanent memorial ghat should be established at the cremation site to honour his legacy. She said that while memorial ghats had been built for several prominent political leaders, no such memorial had been constructed for her father despite his continuing public following.
Asha Kiran said she would soon meet Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and submit a representation seeking the naming of a district after Ranga and the construction of the memorial ghat. She expressed hope that the Deputy Chief Minister would consider both requests.
Asha Kiran recalled that Pawan Kalyan had earlier expressed admiration for Ranga and said this gave her confidence that the government would examine the proposals favourably. She said she hoped the state government would take a positive decision in recognition of Ranga's contribution and the support he continues to enjoy among his followers.
