Ramanaidu Assures Water to Farmers from Veligonda Reservoir

Vijayawada: Water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu assured that Veligonda reservoir will be filled up with by June 2026, so that it could be supplied to farmers within its command area.

Ramanaidu underlined that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu wants to complete the Veligonda reservoir expeditiously.
He slammed former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for claiming that Veligonda project had been completed and dedicated to the nation. “Jagan has mislead the people of the state with regard to the project,” the water resources minister maintained.
He pointed out that Chandrababu Naidu had initiated the Veligonda project some 30 years ago. But there has been a prolonged delay in execution of the project for varied reasons.
Ramanaidu said they are working out possibility of constructing a bypass tunnel in the wake of legal complications involved in removal of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) placed in the tunnel.
In the interim, the minister said they were expediting works related to the head regulator, tunnels, feeder canal and construction of rehabilitation colony. He assured that all efforts will be made to ensure that farmers get water from the Veligonda project by June next year.
