Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the police not to take coercive action against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and adjourned the case to December 9 for the next hearing. A single-judge bench headed by Justice N. Harinath heard a batch of petitions filed by the filmmaker seeking anticipatory bail after multiple FIRs were registered against him.
The controversy arose during the release of his film Vyooham in October 2023, when Varma posted the film's posters on the microblogging platform ‘X.’ A complainant, M. Ramalingaiah, alleged that the posts appeared to insult Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh.
Similar cases were registered in Anakapalli and Guntur districts, prompting Varma to file three anticipatory bail petitions. The court has reserved further action until the next hearing.
