Rains Bring Relief, but Worry Farmers in Godavari Districts

Several roads were submerged, while rainwater accumulated in low-lying areas, particularly in Konaseema district.

Kakinada:Widespread rain brought relief from the recent heat across the Godavari districts on Saturday, but left low-lying areas waterlogged and raised concerns among farmers over inundated paddy fields.

Moderate to heavy rainfall was recorded in Yanam, Polavaram, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Kakinada, East Godavari and West Godavari districts from the early hours of Saturday. Several roads were submerged, while rainwater accumulated in low-lying areas, particularly in Konaseema district.

Students and office-goers faced inconvenience during the morning hours as waterlogging disrupted traffic at several major junctions.

While residents welcomed the showers after days of oppressive heat and humid weather, farmers expressed concern over continuous rainfall during the past four days.

Several farmers had transplanted paddy seedlings over the past two days, but the newly planted fields were inundated by the rain. Agricultural experts said upland paddy fields were unlikely to be affected, but prolonged water stagnation in low-lying fields could damage the crop.

Farmers said they might have to replant paddy if floodwater does not recede soon.
