Quartz Mining Case: Lookout Notice Issued Against YSRC Leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy

The case involves allegations of unauthorized mineral extraction and illegal transportation, registered based on a complaint by the Mines and Geology Department.

Vijayawada: Police have issued a lookout notice against YSRC leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy to prevent him from leaving the country. The notice has been circulated to airports and seaports. Despite being served three notices, Reddy failed to appear for police investigation.

The case involves allegations of unauthorized mineral extraction and illegal transportation, registered based on a complaint by the Mines and Geology Department. Investigators allege that quartz mining continued illegally near Thoderu village in Podalakur mandal, even after the expiration of a mica mining lease near Tatiparthi. Reports suggest political influence facilitated these operations. The issue gained prominence in 2019 when Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy highlighted large-scale illegal mining activities.
A subsequent inquiry found that 61,313 metric tonnes of quartz were unlawfully extracted and transported, resulting in an estimated revenue loss of Rs 7.56 crore, including penalties. Police have formed six teams to apprehend the accused in this case.
