Protesters in Parvathipuram Manyam Seek Union Minister’s Resignation Over Alleged NEET Irregularities
The demonstration was held at the Junior College centre as part of a nationwide bandh call.
Visakhapatnam: Civil society organisations and student groups staged a protest at Komarada mandal headquarters in Parvathipuram Manyam district on Thursday, demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak.
The demonstration was held at the Junior College centre as part of a nationwide bandh call.
Addressing the gathering, CITU leader Kolli Sambamurthy and Girijana Sangham leader Gade Lakshmayya alleged that the integrity of the country’s premier medical entrance examination had been compromised and held the Union government responsible for failing to prevent the alleged irregularities. They demanded that those responsible be held accountable and sought the Union minister’s resignation.
The speakers also criticised the disruption of protests held in Delhi by student groups and activists, and called for reforms in the conduct of entrance examinations. They urged the government to hold discussions with students and demanded compensation of `1 crore each for the families of 22 students who they alleged had died in connection with the controversy.
A large number of students participated in the protest, marching from the junior college to the examination centre. Students from the Zilla Parishad High School also joined the demonstration.
