Prosecution Chief Urges Swift Action to Ensure Justice for Victims

He held a state-level review meeting to assess the progress of cases filed under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act of 1989, which are pending before special courts from January to June, at the Directorate of Prosecutions office on Saturday.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Director of Prosecutions Byra Ramakoteswara Rao stated that the primary duty of the prosecution is not only to pursue cases against the accused but also to deliver dignified justice to the victims.

He held a state-level review meeting to assess the progress of cases filed under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act of 1989, which are pending before special courts from January to June, at the Directorate of Prosecutions office on Saturday.

In his address to the participants, he emphasized that imposing strict punishments on offenders sends a strong message to society while restoring hope and dignity to the victims. Ramakoteswara Rao highlighted the need for special public prosecutors to have a comprehensive understanding of the provisions of the SC and ST Act, 1989, as well as other relevant legislation, such as the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. He urged prosecutors to collaborate closely with police officials to ensure that witnesses appear confidently in courts.
