Retired Justice T Mallikharjuna Rao Sworn In As AP Lokayukta
Retired High Court Judge Justice Thallapragada Mallikarjuna Rao was sworn in as Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta on Tuesday.
Amaravati: Retired High Court Judge Justice Tallapragada Mallikarjuna Rao was sworn in as the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta on Tuesday. He succeeds Justice P. Lakshmana Reddy, who was the first Lokayukta of the state after assuming office in September 2019, and will serve as the second Chairperson.
State Governor S. Abdul Nazeer administered the oath to him at Lok Bhavan in Amaravati. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, ministers Kondapalli Srinivas and others attended the swearing-in ceremony.
The selection committee headed by the Chief Minister chose Justice Mallikarjuna Rao for the post and sent the file to Governor S. Abdul Nazeer for approval. The Governor subsequently gave his assent. The Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday issued orders appointing Justice Mallikarjuna Rao as Lokayukta.
He will remain in office for five years from the date of appointment. The appointment is expected to ensure the full-fledged hearing and disposal of cases before the Lokayukta.
Profile of Justice T Mallikarjuna Rao
Justice Tallapragada Mallikarjuna Rao was born on January 19, 1964, into an agricultural family at Pulletikurru in the erstwhile East Godavari district. He is the second son of Sriramachandramurthy and Ramana. His native place is Nedunuru in Ainavilli mandal.
He completed his schooling there up to Class 10 and later pursued a BSc in Amalapuram. He studied law at GSKM Law College in Rajamahendravaram and enrolled as an advocate in 1988.
After being selected as a judicial officer, he took charge as Additional District Munsif at Parchur, now in Bapatla district, in 1994. He later served in Dharmavaram, Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam and other places.
He was promoted as Senior Civil Judge in 2007 and as District Judge in 2015, serving in Machilipatnam and Eluru. On August 4, 2022, he assumed office as an Additional Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He was appointed a permanent judge on March 14, 2024, and retired on January 18, 2026.
