Probe Into Polavaram Wall Damage: CPM
He expressed concern over statements by the Chief Minister and Governor

VIJAYAWADA: CPM Andhra Pradesh state secretary V. Srinivasa Rao on Friday demanded a comprehensive probe into the damage to the diaphragm wall of the Polavaram project and sought recovery of `1,000 crore allegedly spent on its reconstruction. He expressed concern over statements by the Chief Minister and Governor that an additional `1,000 crore of public funds had been incurred, calling it a waste of taxpayers’ money if accountability is not fixed.
Rao noted that the diaphragm wall, a key component of the irrigation project, was completed in 2019 but was damaged during subsequent heavy floods. He alleged that neither the previous government nor the present dispensation had identified those responsible for the failure.
“Instead of fixing accountability, additional funds have been released to contractors, burdening the public exchequer,” he said, demanding recovery from those found guilty. He also called for a transparent inquiry and urged authorities to have the reconstructed wall examined by independent experts and make the report public.
