Priests Recruited Basing On Merit, Not Zonal System: Anam

Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy said that zonal system was not being followed in the appointment of priests, pandits, supporting staff and others in the temples.
During the Assembly session, the minister was replying to the questions on staff recruitment in temples. He said that the government had no information about injustice to pandits and priests during appointment to temples in Rayalaseema.
Recently, 344 posts were filled. Of them, 172 posts were in Rayalaseema. Vacancies in the Srisailam, Mahanandi, Srikalahasti, Kanipakam temples are being filled by issuing notification.
Irrespective of the region, merit is being priority in the recruitment of priests. Veda and Agama pandits have been ncluded in the committees conducting interviews for priests. Over 1,400 priests attended the interview. Over 1,431 applications were received from Rayalaseema and 172 of the eligible were recruited, Anam said.
The recruitment process has been recorded to maintain transparency, he said.
In Rayalaseema Zone-4, there are over 440 posts. Currently, over 245 are discharging their duties, 147 are vacant. The government is taking measures to fill the posts as per the regulations.
