Priest Suspended For Posting Kanaka Durga Idol Photo On WhatsApp Status

An archaka (priest) of the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam on Indrakeeladri has been suspended for allegedly photographing the Moolavirat (presiding deity) of Goddess Kanaka Durga and uploading it as his WhatsApp status.

Temple executive officer Seena Naik issued orders on Tuesday suspending EL Narasimha Rao with immediate effect.

According to temple officials, capturing photographs or videos of the Moolavirat inside the mantaralayam (sanctum sanctorum) is prohibited as per the temple’s traditional and security regulations.

The EO ordered an inquiry into the incident. During the preliminary investigation, officials found that the priest had violated the established rules.
