Prakasam Police Seize 11.5 kg Ganja During Railway Checks
Police teams searched railway coaches, station premises, parcel offices and surrounding areas with the assistance of sniffer dog Roxy
Nellore: As part of an intensified drive to curb ganja and other narcotics, Prakasam district police conducted extensive checks at Ongole Railway Station and aboard several express trains.
The inspections were carried out under the supervision of Prakasam district superintendent of police V. Harshavardhan Raju. Police teams searched railway coaches, station premises, parcel offices and surrounding areas with the assistance of sniffer dog Roxy.
During the operation, suspicious parcels, passenger bags and other items were thoroughly examined.
In a search conducted on the Alappuzha Express between Ongole and Singarayakonda, police seized about 11.5 kg of ganja along with 37 ganja chocolates.
Four persons were taken into custody and identified as Aashi (25) of Sathyanathapuram in Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu; Ranjith Budek (24) of Sunabahal in Balangir district, Odisha; Basudev Bodak (26) of Sunadahal in Malkangiri district, Odisha; and Lokendra Bure (30) of Saval village in Balangir district, Odisha.
The accused and the seized contraband were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation.
Police officials warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the transportation, sale or consumption of ganja and other narcotic substances. The public has been urged to share information related to drugs through toll-free number 1972, Dial 112, or WhatsApp number 9121102266. Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
The operation was carried out by women police station CI Sudhakar, SIs Shivaramaiah, Sudarshan and Madhusudhan Rao, along with Eagle Team members, dog handlers, special party staff and other police personnel.
