Prakasam Plans Strategy To Boost Economic Growth

Prakasam district is preparing a development strategy to attract investments, improve infrastructure and generate jobs under the Amaravati Economic Region initiative.

The Prakasam district administration is preparing a special development strategy to unlock the district’s agricultural, industrial and services potential under the Amaravati Economic Region initiative, district collector P. Raja Babu said on Tuesday.

The collector held a review meeting at the Collectorate with a three-member expert team led by Smitha J. Kuttukat from the CRDA and Municipal Administration departments to identify growth opportunities and address bottlenecks to investment and infrastructure development.

He said the focus was on integrating Prakasam’s natural and economic resources with those of neighbouring districts within the nine-district Amaravati Economic Region.

Highlighting investment prospects, officials noted that companies such as BPCL and Indosol were planning large-scale investments in the State. The development of Ramayapatnam Port and supporting infrastructure was expected to attract downstream industries and ancillary units, generating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for local youth.

The collector presented a detailed assessment of the district’s infrastructure gaps and economic constraints, stressing the need to improve transport connectivity, logistics and facilities for export-oriented industries.

He also called for coordination among key departments, including Mines and Geology, APIIC, Industries, Horticulture, Agriculture, Irrigation, Roads and Buildings, Fisheries and the Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP), to accelerate economic growth.

The expert team will conduct field visits and analyse data before preparing a model report for submission to the Central and State governments. The report is expected to help the district seek special industrial packages, infrastructure projects and financial allocations. Officials from the Planning Department, APMIP and the District Industries Centre attended the meeting.
