PPA CEO Calls for Caution in Polavaram Dam Works Amid Rains

Vijayawada:Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) CEO Sanjeev Vohra directed officials to exercise caution during construction of the earth-cum-rock-fill (ECRF) dam at the Polavaram project in view of recent rains and called for completion of the project within the stipulated period.
Vohra inspected the ECRF dam construction area on Friday night following rainfall in the project area and reviewed the strength of the work completed so far. He inspected Gaps 1 and 2 and G-Hill and reviewed the ongoing filling works as the gaps were being filled with rock, soil and sand.
He directed officials to ensure regular compaction with road rollers to maintain the required strength and stability of the structure.
Earlier, Vohra held a review meeting with senior water resources department officials, including engineer-in-chief K. Narasimha Murthy. Officials briefed him on the progress of the works.
Vohra assured support from the Centre for execution of the project and reiterated his call for its completion in a time-bound manner. He said both the Central and state governments were keen on completing the project, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu were closely monitoring its progress.
He also directed officials to make necessary arrangements for a team of foreign experts scheduled to visit the project soon.
