Polling Passes Off Peacefully in 92 ULBs; 41 Incidents Reported

Polling across 92 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh concluded amid tight security, with police receiving reports of 41 election-related incidents from 20 districts.

Polling for 92 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), comprising 13 municipal corporations and 79 municipalities and nagar panchayats, concluded peacefully across Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, barring a few minor incidents.

DGP Harish Gupta said many voters exercised their franchise amid elaborate security arrangements and continuous police monitoring. The smooth conduct of polling was facilitated by the use of advanced technology and coordination among various government departments.

Extensive police deployment was made across the state, particularly in sensitive and highly sensitive areas, to prevent untoward incidents. Videography, drones, body-worn cameras, the Samartha App and other surveillance systems were deployed to monitor polling activities.

The DGP said the police had received information about 41 election-related incidents from 20 districts, including Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur. The Integrated Command Control Centre was monitoring all reported incidents, while district police officials had been instructed to verify complaints, identify those responsible and initiate appropriate legal action.

Elaborate security arrangements were also made for transporting ballot boxes from polling stations to designated strong rooms. The DGP directed officials to ensure their safe transportation under police protection and maintain strict security at all strong rooms until the commencement of counting.

Gupta appreciated the roles of senior police officers, district Superintendents of Police, police personnel and other security forces for their dedicated services during the elections.
