TIRUPATI: A political-bureaucratic tussle has surfaced in Tirupati district, with YSRC senior leader and former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy alleging irregularities in land, sand and gravel dealings and accusing district collector Dr A. Venkateswar of ordering a secret inquiry against him.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Bhumana alleged that the collector was supporting irregularities in the dealings. He also alleged that the collector had ordered an inquiry against him through the vigilance and enforcement department and the district police.
He questioned the need for an inquiry against a political leader and alleged that the collector had described him and his followers as “goondas” and recommended cases against them. Bhumana said a case registered at Tiruchanur police station was later removed online and another case, Crime No. 253/2026, was registered over the same issue.
The YSRC leader accused the administration of using the vigilance system against political opponents instead of investigating allegations against government employees. He alleged that illegal earnings of `25 lakh a day were being made from gravel and `50 lakh a day from sand. He also alleged irregularities in land deals and claimed that around `2,000 crore of public money had been looted. He demanded an inquiry into the files handled by the collector.
Bhumana further alleged that the collector received gifts from Sri City companies, contractors and TD leaders on his birthday. He said he would file a defamation case against the collector.
He also criticised minister Anagani Satya Prasad, alleging that the minister and collector were responsible for the alleged irregularities.
