Police Seize Damaged Sleeper Bus In Markapuram

NELLORE: Police seized a private sleeper bus and registered a case, saying it was in an unfit condition, following complaints from passengers at Markapuram on Sunday night.
The bus, belonging to Sri Lakshminarasimha Travels was scheduled to operate between Markapuram and Bengaluru. It arrived at the boarding point with a shattered front windshield and visible damage to the engine section.
Around 38 passengers were present to board the bus. They raised concern over safety and made a complaint to the police after failing to get a response from the operator.
“We tried to contact the owner, but there was no response from his number. When we asked a driver, he said he would wear a helmet and drive,” said Kalyan, one of the passengers bound for Bengaluru.
The police confirmed the passenger’s complaint that it was not safe to travel on the damaged bus. A case has been registered against the operator for endangering public safety.
Police said, “We have seized the bus and booked a case. Strict action against the operator would follow.”
The operator later arranged alternative transport for the passengers who wanted to reach Bengaluru urgently and refunded the ticket amount to the others.
The incident comes weeks after a fatal private bus accident in the region.
