Kurnool: The investigation has begun into the incident at the helipad during former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Papireddypalli in Ramagiri mandal on April 8. As part of the probe, police have issued notices to the pilot and co-pilot of the helicopter, seeking their explanation regarding the developments on the day of the incident.
On Wednesday, co-pilot Shreyas Jain appeared for questioning at the circle inspector’s office in Chennekothapalli, Sri Sathya Sai district. He was questioned for nearly four hours by Dharmavaram DSP B. Hemanth Kumar and circle inspector V. Sridhar. Following the session, Jain returned to Bengaluru.
Sridhar said the co-pilot responded to all queries posed by the investigation team. However, pilot Anil Kumar did not attend the investigation session, citing leave. The circle inspector stated that fresh notices would be issued to him soon.
The helipad had been arranged under the supervision of the YSRC for Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to the family of party activist Kuruba Lingamayya, who was recently murdered in Papireddypalli. Upon landing, a large crowd of YSRC supporters reportedly breached the barricades and surrounded the helicopter. During the commotion, the windshield of the helicopter was reportedly damaged.
Further, some YSRC leaders accused the government and police of a serious security lapse, claiming that the damage rendered the helicopter unfit for further travel, forcing Jagan Mohan Reddy to continue his travel by road.
In response, the police served notices to the pilot, co-pilot, and the management company based in Jakkur, Karnataka, as part of a detailed investigation into the incident.
