Hyderabad: The police opened fire at a man accused of attacking them with a knife in Komatikuntla Lakula Donka Road in Kankipadu mandal.
Kankipadu Circle Inspector (CI) fired at the accused, Avinash, after he allegedly attacked the police with a knife and stones. The Gannavaram and Kankipadu CIs had launched a search for Avinash, who had reportedly injured police personnel in Nallajerla of East Godavari district on Monday morning before fleeing the scene.
At around 11 pm, when the police tried to apprehend him, Avinash allegedly attacked them with a knife and stones. Constable Srinivas sustained serious injuries on his chest in the attack.
As the situation posed a threat to the police personnel, the Kankipadu CI opened fire at Avinash's legs in self-defence. The accused sustained injuries to his legs and was shifted to the Vijayawada Government General Hospital for treatment.
