TIRUPATI: Police have registered cases against several YSR Congress (leaders, citing rule violations during party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Nellore on Thursday.

The booked leaders include former minister Prasanna Kumar Reddy, Bobbala Srinivas Yadav, Patapati Prabhakar, among others. The cases were filed at Dargamitta police station on charges of violation of prohibitory orders, blocking of roads, and pushing police barricades.

Jagan Reddy was in Nellore to meet former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy, currently in judicial remand in relation to the quartz mining scam. He also visited the residence of Prasanna Kumar, who has been facing legal cases for his alleged derogatory remarks against Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy.

Before the former CM’s arrival, a group of YSRC workers, led by Prasanna Kumar, assembled near the R&B guest house close to his residence.

Prasanna says they were awaiting Jagan’s visit and had complied with police instructions to disperse when a scuffle broke out. However, the Dargamitta CI Rosaiah led a lathi-charge on the gathering, injuring him.

Prasanna Kumar claimed he nearly collapsed from the blow. He sought an apology from the district SP and staged a brief sit-in protest, which was however called off after Jagan Reddy reached his residence.

Meanwhile, another case was registered on a complaint from special branch head constable Malakondaiah, who ended up with a fractured arm while attempting to manage the crowd. YSRC leaders, however, maintained that they did no law violations and accused the police of acting in a high-handed manner.
