Police Act on Viral Video, Arrest Man Who Slapped Woman
She expressed shock that no one came forward to help her despite the incident occurring at one of the city’s busiest intersections

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam city police on Saturday night arrested a mentally unstable man who allegedly slapped a young woman at the busy Jagadamba Junction after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The woman, Vijaya Durga, was returning home from work when she stopped to take a photograph of a movie poster for the upcoming Prabhas film Raja Saab. In the video, she said a man wearing green ritual garments suddenly approached and slapped her in front of several bystanders. She expressed shock that no one came forward to help her despite the incident occurring at one of the city’s busiest intersections.
Maharanipeta Circle Inspector Diwakar Yadav said he noticed the video around 9.30 pm and immediately ordered a search without waiting for a formal complaint. Police teams traced the suspect near Appughar Junction and took him into custody.
The CI said the man was found to be mentally unstable and was living near burial grounds, surviving by collecting and selling plastic bottles. He allegedly believed the woman was photographing him and claimed he was a god.
The woman later said she chose not to file a complaint after learning about his mental condition, adding that he needed medical treatment rather than punishment.
