Polavaram Project Receives 6.5 Lakh Cusecs Of Floodwaters

The islet villages in Burugulanka, G Pedapudi Lanka, Arigeravari Lanka etc were still inundated

Kakinada: The Godavari’s water levels were rising with an inflow of floodwaters from upstream areas. The Polavaram project received 6.5 lakh cusecs of floodwaters on Sunday.

The river’s water levels were receding slowly till Sunday evening. The flood threats thereafter too might recede in Kukkunuru and Velerupadu in Eluru district, officials said.
The floodwaters were swiftly reaching the Polavaram project and Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram. The irrigation EE, G Srinivas, said 6 lakh cusecs of water was discharged from the Dowleswaram barrage and it may rise by another 50,000 cusecs by Monday. Later, it may recede, he said.
Meanwhile, the islet villages in Burugulanka, G Pedapudi Lanka, Arigeravari Lanka etc were still inundated. The people as also students were moving on boats to reach the mandal headquarters of P Gannavaram in the BR Ambedkar Konaseema district.
