PMVBRY To Boost Job Creation, Formal Sector Employment

The scheme is designed to promote employment across all sectors, with special emphasis on manufacturing: Officials

VIJAYAWADA: The government of India’s flagship Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY) is set to provide a major thrust to employment generation, skill development and social security coverage, with benefits worth nearly ₹2,400 crore scheduled to be disbursed to eligible beneficiaries across the country on June 19.

Addressing a press briefing at the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) zonal office in Vijayawada on Wednesday, Andrew Prabhu, additional central provident fund commissioner, and Abdul Khader, regional provident fund commissioner-II, highlighted the objectives and implementation framework of the ambitious employment initiative.

Officials said the scheme is designed to promote employment across all sectors, with special emphasis on manufacturing. The benefits are applicable to jobs created between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2027.

Under part A of the scheme, first-time employees registered with EPFO and earning up to ₹1 lakh per month are eligible for an incentive equivalent to one month’s wage, subject to a ceiling of ₹15,000. The amount will be released in two instalments after six months and twelve months of continuous service. Completion of a financial literacy programme is mandatory for receiving the second instalment. A portion of the incentive will be retained in a savings instrument for a specified period to encourage long-term financial discipline among young workers.

Under part B, employers generating additional employment will receive incentives of up to ₹3,000 per month for each additional employee for two years, provided the employee remains in service for at least six months. Manufacturing sector employers will receive the benefit for an additional two years, extending support up to four years.

To qualify, EPFO-registered establishments with fewer than 50 employees must recruit at least two additional workers, while larger establishments must add a minimum of five employees.

A regional-level PMVBRY event will be conducted at Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education (VR Siddhartha Engineering College), Kanuru, Vijayawada, from 4 pm on June 19. Public representatives, district officials, EPFO authorities, employers, employees and industry representatives are expected to participate. Appointment letters will also be ceremonially handed over to newly recruited employees, symbolising the scheme’s role in promoting formal employment and workforce expansion.
