PM, CM Nadiu driving AP’s growth at high speed: Amit Shah

Vijayawada: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated several projects and laid the foundation stone for new projects in Andhra Pradesh, worth around Rs 220 crore.

These included the National South Campus of the Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the 10th Battalion of the NDRF, and the Regional Response Centre at Supaul Campus. Shah also laid the foundation for the new integrated shooting range at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad and inaugurated the regional forensic science laboratory building in Tirupati.

Addressing the 20th NDRF Raising Day celebrations in Kondapavuluru, Shah emphasised the significance of the NDRF in ensuring public safety during disasters. In response to criticism of the previous government, Shah said, "The devastation caused in the past should not be a concern for us as we focus on the future."

Shah said both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu were committed to advancing Andhra Pradesh's development. They would ensure a tripling of the state’s progress, he said.

The home minister said, "In the past six months, we have provided Rs 3 lakh crore in financial assistance to the state." These included a significant investment of Rs 11,440 crore aimed at modernising the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, which he described as integral to the pride of the Andhra community.

Referring to the previous government’s decision to establish three capitals, instead of Amaravati, Shah said it was a 'failed initiative'. He noted that the current administration is arranging a fund of Rs 27,000 crore through HUDCO for Amaravati’s development.
Shah also spoke of plans for the Polavaram project, stressing its importance as a lifeline for the state, with aims to channel water through it by 2028. He cited the progress in the establishment of the Visakhapatnam railway zone.

Shah said that in the last five years, Andhra Pradesh has faced significant setbacks due to man-made disasters. To make up for the developmental losses during the period, Prime Minister Modi and CM Naidu are driving Andhra Pradesh’s growth at three times the normal speed, he claimed.
The home minister praised Naidu for propelling the state forward through sound administrative, financial and developmental strategies.

He noted that the Centre has accelerated its efforts to realize Naidu's vision of Amaravati as the state capital by allocating Rs 27,000 crore for it through HUDCO and the World Bank. “The foundation for the new railway zone has been laid, and water from Polavaram will reach every corner of the state by 2028.”

Shah also shared plans to invest Rs 2 lakh crore to make Visakhapatnam a hub for green hydrogen. In the last six months, highway and infrastructure projects worth approximately Rs 1.2 lakh crore have been approved for Andhra Pradesh, he said.

The home minister highlighted the advancements the country has made in disaster management through the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM).

“There is harmonious collaboration among NDRF, NDMA and NIDM in working towards this goal. In the past two years, the NDRF successfully achieved the target of zero casualties during two major storms. NDRF's efforts in countries such as Nepal, Indonesia, Turkey, Myanmar and Vietnam have been widely recognized and appreciated by their respective heads of state,” he said.
