Petroleum Traders Seek Security at AP Fuel Stations
The delegation cited incidents of attacks, threats and intimidation against fuel station personnel.
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh petroleum traders have sought enhanced security and safety measures for personnel working at fuel stations across the state.
A delegation of the Andhra Pradesh Federation of Petroleum Traders, led by its president R. Gopalakrishna and secretary P. Ravi Kumar, met Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta on Friday and sought state-wide security protocols.
The delegation cited incidents of attacks, threats and intimidation against fuel station personnel. It referred to the fatal assault on a staff member, Arif, at a fuel station in Paritala on September 8, allegedly after a motorist fled without paying for fuel. It also cited the assault on pump attendant Ashok by five persons at Ajit Singh Nagar.
The traders sought increased police patrolling, a dedicated emergency contact, prompt legal action and standard warning boards outlining the consequences of assaulting personnel or damaging property at fuel stations.
Ravi Kumar said the DGP responded positively to their concerns and agreed to examine measures including notice boards, monitoring of fuel stations through the central command control centre and alarms linked to local police stations.
