People Told To Dispose Of E-Waste In A Scientific Manner To Prevent Harm To The Environment

Veerapandian exhorted students to create awareness among the people about disposing of e-waste in a scientific manner to prevent harm to the environment. Speaking at Pithapuram on Saturday, Veerapandian said that the state government was organising the Swachh Andhra and Swarna Andhra programme every third Saturday with a unique theme, and this month’s theme was the scientific disposal of e-waste.
He mentioned that there was no such huge e-waste problem 35 years ago, but in recent years, tonnes of e-waste have been generated, and it should be disposed of in a scientific manner for the benefit of future generations. District Collector S. Shan Mohan stated that air conditioners, air coolers, TVs, refrigerators, cell phones, and other electronic gadgets that are damaged should not be kept in homes, as they could adversely affect health. He urged people to hand them over to village panchayats or municipalities.
Former MLA S. V. S. N. Varma, Jana Sena coordinator M. Srinivas, and others were present.
State Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh said that the state government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, is prioritising the environment, welfare, and development simultaneously. He noted that radiation from e-waste could lead to cancer and other health problems. Durgesh participated in the programme at Rajamahendravaram and Nidadavole.
District Collector P. Prashanthi announced that e-waste collection centres would be set up in every village in the coming days.
Eluru District Collector K. Vetri Selvi urged the people to reduce the use of plastic to protect the environment and their health. She advised using cotton bags instead of plastic covers and not throwing waste on streets or in drains. Officials and government employees removed plastic and e-waste from the Krishna canal at Eluru. Housing Minister participated in the Swarna Andhra and Swachh Andhra Programme at Agiripalli in the district.
West Godavari District Collector Ch. Nagarani took part in the programme at Tadepalligudem with MLA Bolisetty Srinivas and emphasised that the people should keep society clean and green. She also encouraged traders to focus on making compost from wet waste.
