The minister said railway allocations to Andhra Pradesh had increased substantially over the years

VIJAYAWADA: Union minister of state for rural development and communications Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Friday laid the foundation stone for the Chinapalakaluru Road Over Bridge (ROB) between Nallapadu and Bandarupalli railway stations in Guntur district. The project is being taken up with Central government funds at a cost of ₹49.95 crore.
Local MLA B. Ramanjaneyulu and senior railway officials attended the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Pemmasani said the coalition government was executing development works across Andhra Pradesh at an unprecedented pace. He said that since assuming office as MP and Union minister, he had focused on resolving traffic congestion in Guntur and surrounding areas. As part of these efforts, seven ROBs had been sanctioned for Guntur district.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for extending support to the projects. He said this was the third ROB foundation ceremony in the district and added that work on the Mangalagiri ROB would begin soon.
The minister said railway allocations to Andhra Pradesh had increased substantially over the years. He noted that while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together received around ₹800 crore annually between 2014 and 2019, the allocation for Andhra Pradesh in 2026-27 alone stood at nearly `10,000 crore.
Dr Pemmasani said several infrastructure and welfare works were under implementation in Guntur, including development projects worth hundreds of crores at Guntur Government General Hospital, `400 crore road and drainage works within Guntur Municipal Corporation limits, and skill development programmes for youth in revived colleges.
Referring to education initiatives under Education minister Nara Lokesh, he said 39 meritorious students from Guntur had been selected for a Delhi tour and an opportunity to meet the Vice-President.
MLA Ramanjaneyulu said the railway gate on the route frequently caused inconvenience to commuters travelling towards Telangana and Rayalaseema regions and thanked Dr Pemmasani for securing the ROB project.
South Central Railway DRM Sudeshna Sen and several public representatives were present.
