Peddapalli’s Chikitha Strikes Bull’s Eye, Wins Gold and Rewrites World Record
CM overwhelmed, praises the 20-year-old global record breaker

KARIMNAGAR: Telangana’s 20-year-old Taniparthi Chikitha brought focus on the State while becoming the first Indian archer to win gold in the prestigious World Archery Youth Championships in Winnipeg, Canada.
The young girl, who has re-written the world record in the Under-21 archery, hails from Sultanpur village in Eligedu mandal of Peddapalli district.
In her final match in Canada, Chikitha withstood pressure, defeating South Korea’s Yerim Park 142-136.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy praised her confidence, concentration and determination. “Despite coming from a rural background, Chikitha has overcome many challenges to excel in archery. She will continue to achieve even greater victories in the future,” he declared, conveying his best wishes to her.
Chikitha shone throughout the tournament. She defeated fellow Indian archer Parneet Kaur 146-143 in the quarterfinals, then overcame Spain’s Paula Diaz Morillas in the semifinals with a 142-133 scoreline before her tremendous performance in the final.
Her breakthrough achievement follows her silver in the team event at the World Cup Stage 2 in China last May. With this gold, Chikitha is expected to secure the 20th rank in world archery.
IT minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu praised the archer, congratulating her for being the first Indian to win gold medal in the Under-21 category of the World Archery Youth Championships. “She has made the entire country proud,” he underlined.
