Pedda Dastagiri Case: Prime Accused Nithyananda Reddy Surrenders Before Police
The YSR Kadapa police had launched a manhunt across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states, and a look-out notice was also issued against Nithyananda Reddy.

YSR Kadapa: n a significant development in the sensational murder case of local realtor Pedda Dastagiri, former Kadapa deputy mayor and YSRCP leader Bandi Nityananda Reddy, the prime accused, surrendered before the District Superintendent of Police on Monday.
Nityananda Reddy had been absconding for the past 20 days. The YSR Kadapa police had launched a manhunt across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states, and a look-out notice was also issued against him. The YSRCP leader arrived at the District SP's office, accompanied by his lawyer, and surrendered. Police subsequently took him into custody and shifted him to another location.
Pedda Dastagiri, a resident of Alamkhanpalle, was murdered on April 7th, 2026, near the Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) premises. There are widespread allegations that Nityananda Reddy was behind the crime, with the murder reportedly stemming from disputes over land dealings between the two.
Police who had conducted raids, seized key documents and registration papers pertaining to lands valued at approximately Rs 100 crore from Nityananda Reddy’s residence. Police suspect the motive behind the murder involved significant land disputes, financial transactions, and political factors.
Earlier, Kadapa Deputy Superintendent of Police Venkateswarlu was transferred following allegations of failure in maintaining law and order and charges of corruption. He was also accused of failing to control clashes between two groups in Alamkhanpalle, which had led to Dastagiri’s murder. As per police reports, the other accused in the murder had taken shelter at Nityananda Reddy’s house after committing the crime. Kadapa police have already arrested 11 people in connection with the case.
