VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government would usher in a new phase of systemic reforms in the Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Rural Water Supply departments under guidance from deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan.
Pawan Kalyan, who heads the departments of Panchayati Raj, rural development and RWS, held ahigh-level review meeting at his camp office on Friday. He stressed the need for comprehensive structural changes from the field level up to the state administration. He discussed the staffing pattern, hierarchy and functional roles across both departments.
Pawan Kalyan emphasised that the pace of the ongoing development works and creation of rural infrastructure must be accelerated, ensuring that public satisfaction improved.
Citing innovative pilot projects such as the Swachh Rath and Magic Drain initiatives, he said creative and people-centric models must be adopted widely to deliver better services in rural areas.
The DCM underscored the need to create a more supportive and encouraging working environment for the employees in both departments. “Providing clean drinking water and better road connectivity to rural communities is a major commitment of the alliance government,” he said.
Strengthening the rural water supply and sanitation wings is “essential to meeting these goals.”
Highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring of the Jal Jeevan Mission works, PK stressed the need for technological upgrades within the department. Officials must ensure effective implementation of the existing water supply schemes and maintain rigorous water-quality testing standards. Routine maintenance and long-term sustainability, he said, must be integral to the reform agenda.
The Deputy CM reviewed the implementation and monitoring of MGNREGA works. He reminded the officials that they played a crucial role in fostering trust and confidence among labourers and local communities. Regular reviews based on gram sabha resolutions, he added, are essential for transparency and accountability.
Pawan Kalyan directed officials to prepare a comprehensive report on reforms and best practices for both departments. A follow-up review would be conducted within a week.
Panchayati Raj and rural development Commissioner Krishna Teja and OSD Venkata Krishna were among those present.
