Pawan Meets PM, Seeks More Funds for Drinking Water Scheme
Vijayawada: Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday – the third day of his visit to the national capital.
Kalyan discussed the state’s key developmental issues and sought the Centre's support for effective implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme. The central scheme aims to provide safe drinking water through household taps in rural areas.
The deputy CM told the PM that the YSRC government had spent only Rs 2,000 crore out of the Rs 23,000 crore the Centre gave to AP for the JJM scheme. The works executed by the YSRC government under the JJM scheme were of substandard quality, he said.
“The present alliance government has prepared a comprehensive project report to complete the JJM works and ensure 24-hour drinking water supply to all rural households. We urge the Centre to provide additional funds for completing the works,” Pawan urged the PM.
“Our discussions focused on the development of AP, exploring ways for the fast-paced progress of our state,” PK stated on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, he met Union forest minister Bhupendra Yadav to discuss red sanders conservation in the Seshachalam biosphere in AP. Pawan Kalyan pleaded that the state forest department be made the nodal agency for managing the e-auctioning of seized red sanders logs. “Our aim is to ensure uniform grading and higher revenue for the state,” he claimed.
The deputy CM requested the minister’s support for repatriating the seized red sanders logs and formalizing APFD as the nodal agency for the sale and export of red sanders.
