Pawan Kalyan Announces Dedicated Blood Bank for Araku to Combat Sickle Cell Anaemia

He described the project as a New Year gift to tribal communities.

Vijayawada: In a New Year gesture aimed at improving tribal healthcare, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan has announced the establishment of a dedicated blood bank at the Government Hospital in the Araku constituency.

This facility would address the growing burden of sickle cell anaemia among tribal women.
The proposed blood bank, to be constructed within the hospital premises, would be equipped with modern facilities to safely store blood as per medical requirements. The building would be constructed with the support of donors, following the personal initiative of the Deputy CM. It would be formally integrated with the Araku government hospital.
The decision follows a moving interaction during the Adavi Thalli Baata programme, when Pawan Kalyan visited Kuridi village and held a Maata Manthi (people’s interaction). At the meeting, a tribal woman highlighted the severe hardships faced by women due to sickle cell anaemia, explaining how the hereditary disorder was leading to repeated miscarriages, severe anaemia and even loss of life among pregnant women.
Deeply moved, Pawan had assured her that he would find a lasting solution.
Subsequently, the Deputy CM held consultations with medical experts on effective strategies to mitigate the impact of the disease. Acting on their advice that regular and timely blood transfusions can significantly reduce complications arising from sickle cell anaemia, he decided to set up a blood bank as a long-term intervention.
Kalyan said the initiative is expected to bring major relief to nearly 1,500 sickle cell anaemia patients spread across Alluri Sitarama Raju district, where the disease prevalence is among the highest in the state. He said the facility would not only improve emergency care but also strengthen maternal health services for tribal women.
He described the project as a New Year gift to tribal communities.
