Pawan Felicitates Blind Women’s World Cup Winners with ₹5 Lakh Each

Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Kalyan said, “I am happy that the blind women’s team has won the World Cup. But what touched me deeply is that a key player who helped secure the victory has no home.”

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan on Friday felicitated the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team, which recently lifted the World Cup. He handed over ₹5 lakh to each player and ₹2 lakh to each support staff member, in all handing over ₹84 lakh on behalf of the state government.

Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Kalyan said, “I am happy that the blind women’s team has won the World Cup. But what touched me deeply is that a key player who helped secure the victory has no home.”
Calling their triumph “an extraordinary victory over disability,” Pawan said their achievement is inspirational not only for people with disabilities but for every individual. “You turned adversity into strength and won honour for the nation,” he underlined.
The Deputy Chief Minister said he would bring their concerns to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and explore corporate assistance to them through the Andhra Cricket Association.
Team captain Deepika highlighted the lack of basic amenities in her village in the Sri Sathya Sai district and the hardships her teammates face. Responding immediately, Pawan Kalyan sanctioned a road to her village. He also directed officials to build a house for team member Karuna Kumari from Alluri Sitarama Raju district.
Delhi player Anu Kumari said that even after winning the World Cup, the blind players have not received the facilities accorded to regular cricketers. She stressed the need for dedicated grounds with sound-oriented infrastructure.
Jammu & Kashmir player Anekha Devi said her match fees helped run her household after her father fell ill.
Senior blind cricketer and Arjuna awardee Ajay Kumar Reddy said the team’s success demonstrates how much more they can achieve with proper facilities. He expressed confidence that Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan will continue standing by the blind cricketers, just as he had in the past.
Officials of the Andhra Cricket Association and representatives from blind cricket bodies participated in the felicitation programme.
