Parents’ Association Urges Realistic Reforms To Improve Learning Outcomes In Schools

The Association raised concerns about flaws in the current education system that could derail the goal: Reports

NELLORE: The Parents’ Association of Andhra Pradesh has written an open letter to the state commissioner of education, supporting the government’s goal of ensuring that every Class 3 student can read and write in both Telugu and English, and solve basic arithmetic problems by the 2026–27 academic year.

While welcoming the vision, the Association raised concerns about flaws in the current education system that could derail the goal. The letter cited lack of accountability among teachers and officials, excessive mobile phone use by teachers during class hours, and the burden of non-academic duties that reduce actual teaching time.

They also flagged declining enrolment leading to school closures, the delay in appointment of English teachers in model schools, and the over-reliance on app-based data entry, which adds to teacher workload. Additionally, they pointed out that many teachers do not enrol their own children in government schools, indicating a lack of confidence in the system.

The Association proposed that teacher training be conducted during holidays and called for strict enforcement of the Right to Education Act, 2009, across both public and private schools to ensure foundational learning for all.

Association president S. Narahari and secretary G. Eshwarayya stressed that unless these systemic issues are addressed, the government’s foundational learning targets would be difficult to achieve. They urged the commissioner to consider ground realities and involve parents, teachers, education experts, and officials in meaningful consultations.
