Vijayawada: BJP senior leader Paka Venkata Satyanarayana filed his nomination papers on Tuesday for the upcoming Rajya Sabha bypoll in Andhra Pradesh, emerging as the NDA’s unanimous candidate.

Satyanarayana submitted his nomination to returning officer Vanitha Rani at the Assembly premises, accompanied by Union minister of state for heavy industries and steel Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma, state health minister Satya Kumar Yadav, and MLC Somu Veerraju.

Soon after, Satyanarayana paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat. The Chief Minister congratulated him and wished him well in his new responsibilities.

Earlier in the day, Satyanarayana was welcomed at the BJP state headquarters, where he was felicitated with shawls by party colleagues, including Srinivasa Varma and Somu Veerraju.

Speaking on the occasion, Satyanarayana reflected on his four-decade journey with the BJP. Starting as a town president, he rose through the ranks and served in key roles such as chairman of the party's drafting and disciplinary committees.

He said his nomination reflects the BJP’s commitment to uplifting backward communities and recognising dedicated workers. “This nomination is a testament to the party’s belief in rewarding hard work. I’m grateful to the leadership and pledge to strengthen the party in the state,” he said.

The Rajya Sabha bypoll is scheduled for May 9, with polling from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by counting and declaration of results the same day.
