“Since they have applied for a long-term visa, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad has given oral permission for them to remain in India,” said Visakhapatnam commissioner of police Dr Sankabrata Bagchi

Visakhapatnam: A Pakistani national and his four-year-old son have received a breather from the Indian government, which has permitted them to continue residing in Visakhapatnam until further orders.

“Since they have applied for a long-term visa, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Hyderabad has given oral permission for them to remain in India,” said Visakhapatnam commissioner of police Dr Sankabrata Bagchi.

The father and son have been living in the city for the past two years for the child’s psychiatric treatment at a corporate hospital. The boy’s mother, a dentist from Guntur, holds an Indian passport and is employed at a corporate hospital in Visakhapatnam. The family currently resides in a rented house in the city.

Over the past decade, four Pakistani families have sought medical treatment for their children in Visakhapatnam, citing lower costs compared to other Indian cities.
