P4 Improves Livelihood of Poor Families In Kuppam

From depending on daily wages to building their own income-generating assets, several poor families in Kuppam assembly constituency are witnessing a gradual transformation under the state government’s Public-Private-People Partnership for Prosperity (P4) initiative.

TIRUPATI: From depending on daily wages to building their own income-generating assets, several poor families in Kuppam assembly constituency are witnessing a gradual transformation under the state government’s Public-Private-People Partnership for Prosperity (P4) initiative.

The programme, aimed at achieving zero poverty, is being implemented in the chief minister’s home constituency as a pilot model for economic empowerment.

Interacting with P4 mentors and Bangaru Kutumbalu during his Kuppam visit on Sunday, Chandrababu Naidu said the initiative was designed as a permanent solution for poverty eradication by helping poor families achieve financial independence. “The objective is not just to extend financial assistance, but to improve the living standards of families through proper guidance and sustainable livelihood creation", he said.

Naidu said the programme follows the MBK–10:20 model, where the top 10 per cent of society supports the bottom 20 per cent of economically weaker families. Some 12 lakh Bangaru Kutumbalu have been identified across the state and 1.10 lakh mentors have come forward to support them.

Since the launch of P4 on Ugadi on March 30, 2025, a total of 8,904 Bangaru Kutumbalu were identified in Kuppam. The chief minister personally adopted 250 families, while mentors, partner organisations and field-level support systems were brought together to provide livelihood opportunities.

Representatives of MEIL, Adani and TVS Motor Company, which are supporting families under the initiative, also took part in the interaction. Naidu urged these organisations entrusted with supporting thousands of families in Kuppam to continuously monitor their progress.

According to officials, Rs 5.29 crore mobilised from companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds has helped 761 families across the four mandals of Kuppam till July 2026. The remaining identified families would be covered in a phased manner over the next six to ten months.

The programme would help the poor families create assets and strengthen the family members’ existing skills. “Dairy farming has emerged as a major livelihood activity, benefiting 444 families, followed by sheep and goat rearing for 155 families. Assistance was also provided for tailoring, retail shops, food businesses, vegetable trade, transport services and other small enterprises", an official said.

One such beneficiary is M Jayamma, an ST woman from Nanyala Thanda in Ramakuppam mandal, who shifted from daily wage work to dairy farming after receiving a Rs 70,000 assistance from MEIL under P4. Her monthly income increased from around Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000, and she later purchased another cattle on her own.

In Gudupalle, Vijay Kumar of Kothapalli modernised his tailoring unit with Rs 50,000 assistance from TVS. After upgrading his equipment, his family’s monthly income increased from Rs 13,000–Rs 15,000 to nearly Rs 30,000. Other beneficiaries include Ranemma of Kempasamudram, who started a vegetable shop; Harikrishna of Krishnarajapuram, who established a grocery store; and Bhavani of Kanamanapalli, who took up vetiver cultivation.

Apart from livelihood support, MEIL established a skill development centre at Ramakuppam, where 59 youths completed electrician training and most of them secured jobs with Rs 16,000 monthly salary. The programme also created employment for 38 Bangaru Mitras, while MEIL adopted thalassemia patient Sravanthi’s family from Gadduru and extended a `10 lakh assistance for her treatment and family needs.

The Chief Minister said P4 success stories would be highlighted across the state as examples of how coordinated efforts between the government, private organisations and people can help reduce economic inequalities and improve living standards.
