P-4 for Welfare and Development of the Poor: Ravindra

Ravindra said the P-4 signified a ‘Partnership of the People, the Public and Private entities’ to push the causes of the poor.

Vijayawada: Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra has hailed the P-4 programme of the state government, saying this would promote the welfare and development of the poor and eradicate poverty in Andhra Pradesh.

He said the P-4 signified a ‘Partnership of the People, the Public and Private entities’ to push the causes of the poor. This is part of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s SuvarnaAndhra programme. It provides an interface for the rich to help the poor through humanitarian efforts.

On Tuesday, in a meeting at the district council’s conference hall in Machilipatnam, the minister engaged with town and village secretariat staff, officials, party leaders and others to discuss the implementation of P-4 in the Machilipatnam constituency.

Ravindra said the state government aimed at eradicating poverty in society by 2029. “This initiative aims to provide essential infrastructure, education and health care to economically weaker sections and foster social development,” he said.

The minister said the programme encourages the wealthiest 10 per cent of society to mentor and adopt the underprivileged 20 per cent.

He explained,“So far, in Andhra Pradesh, 1,917,151 golden families have been identified, with 164,546 families adopted by 10,343 mentors. In Krishna district, 68,948 golden families were recognized, with 2,723 families adopted by 344 mentors.”

In Machilipatnam constituency, 9,778 golden families were identified, with 398 of them adopted by 106 mentors. There are 76 village ward secretariats in the constituency, he said, and emphasized the need for staff to identify mentors within their jurisdiction and promote the main objectives of this programme.”

District collector Balaji said that while various government schemes have been introduced to eliminate poverty, a complete eradication has yet to be realized. He suggested identifying wealthy Telugus settled within the country and abroad from each secretariat's jurisdiction and encouraging them to adopt golden families.
