Over 3,000 Celebrate Telugu Language, Art, and Culture in Narsingi

Hyderabad: “The younger generation must take charge of the task of keeping Telugu alive,” said Tripura Governor Nallu Indrasena Reddy at the Telugu Sangamam Sankranti Sammelanam here on Sunday.

The gathering at Om Convention Hall in Narsingi saw over 3,000 people come together to celebrate the language, art, and culture that form the core of their identity.

The event saw several traditional performances like Kuchipudi, Burra Katha and Dhimsa dances. The focus of the event, however, was the conversations around the challenges and future of the Telugu language.

“Parents must speak Telugu with their children. If it doesn’t remain part of daily conversations, it will fade,” Indrasena Reddy cautioned, as he urged families to make sure Telugu stays as a part of daily conversations.

Telangana BJP chief and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy spoke of Sankranti as more than a festival, and more of a moment of reconnection. “When people return to their villages, it isn’t just about nostalgia. It’s about reliving old memories while contributing to the present, like fixing schools or building roads. These small acts keep communities strong,” he said.

AP former minister Dr Mandali Buddha Prasad pointed to Tamil Nadu’s firm dedication to its language and called it an example for Telugu speakers. “In Tamil Nadu, language isn’t just a tool for communication. It’s their pride and identity. Telugu deserves the same commitment,” he said.

Actor Dr. Rajendra Prasad spoke of his connection with Telugu, stating, “Every role I’ve played and every story I’ve told has been rooted in this language. It’s the bond that ties us all together.”

Telugu is growing outside India, with over 1,12,500 learners worldwide. Nonetheless it is imperative to nurture it as Dr Kuchibhotla Anand, president and CEO of the University of Silicon Andhra of California, noted. “It’s inspiring to see how far Telugu has travelled, but we need to take care of it here, where it was born,” he said.
