Over 13.5 Crore Srivari Laddus Sold in 2025: Highest in a Decade

TTD board chairman B.R. Naidu said strict quality control measures are in place

TIRUPATI: Sales of Srivari Laddu prasadam reached a record level in 2025, registering a 10 per cent increase over the previous year.

According to figures released by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, 13.52 crore laddus were sold to devotees in 2025, compared to 12.15 crore in 2024. This represents an additional sale of 1.37 crore laddus a year.

The highest single-day sale in the past decade was recorded on December 27, 2025, when 5.13 lakh laddus were sold.

TTD prepares up to four lakh laddus daily under normal conditions. On important and peak days, the production is stepped up, with a buffer of around eight lakh to ten lakh laddus kept ready to meet higher demand.

The Srivari Laddu has a history of over 310 years and has been an integral part of temple rituals since 1715. Initially offered in the form of boondi, it evolved into the present laddu form by 1940. Its popularity grew steadily over the decades.

In 2014, the laddu was granted Geographical Indication status, ensuring that only TTD can prepare and sell it under the name Tirumala Laddu.

A key feature of the laddu is its strict adherence to the traditional recipe known as the Dittam, which has been revised only six times in history.

A senior official said that for every 5,100 laddus, precisely measured quantities of ingredients are used, including pure cow ghee, Bengal gram flour, sugar, cashews, raisins, cardamom and rock sugar, to preserve the traditional taste and quality.

Around 700 Sri Vaishnava Brahmins are engaged in the preparation of Srivari Laddu prasadam at the Srivari Potu inside the Tirumala temple. They work in two shifts, round the clock, following prescribed rituals, discipline and traditional practices during the preparation process.

Devotees have expressed satisfaction in recent months over the improved quality and taste. B Hari Kishor, a pilgrim from Nandalur, said the laddus now “taste better” and these remind him of the prasadam he had during his childhood visits.

TTD board chairman B.R. Naidu said strict quality control measures are in place. “We would uphold the sanctity of the Srivari Laddu.”
