Visakhapatnam: A 37-year-old woman from Srikakulam district has died under suspicious circumstances at Muscat in Oman. Her family has expressed serious doubts about her alleged suicide.
Nagamani, a resident of Amadalavalasa mandal, had reportedly been found dead at her workplace in Muscat, where she had been working as a caretaker for the past several months.
According to Sarojini, mother of the deceased, her daughter had travelled to Muscat approximately four years through an agent for supporting her family financially.
After Nagamani’s husband Venugopal had died about five years ago, Nagamani had moved back to her native village to live with her mother, before seeking employment abroad.
"Just four months ago, my daughter had come home from Muscat," Sarojini said. "For the last three days, Nagamani had been telling me about facing severe harassment at her workplace. She said she wanted to return home. I don't know what happened."
The agent, who facilitated Nagamani’s employment, informed Sarojini about her daughter’s death.
Srikakulam superintendent of police K.V. Maheswar Reddy said Nagamani had been found hanging at her workplace in Muscat four days ago. This is the second time she had been to Muscat. Previously, she worked there for three years before returning home for five months. She went back to Muscat for work approximately six months ago.
Amadalavalasa MLA Koona Ravikumar has contacted union Civil Aviation minister Rammohan Naidu to expedite the process of bringing Nagamani's body back to India. Indian and Omani authorities are coordinating in this regard.
