Operation Clean Sweep Spirit Must Continue: Civic Body Chief

The municipal commissioner said the campaign, launched by the state government on May 22.

Vijayawada: The spirit of the month-long Operation Clean Sweep campaign must continue through active public participation even after its formal conclusion, Vijayawada municipal commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra said on Saturday.

Speaking at the valedictory function in JD Nagar, he lauded sanitation workers, describing them as the city’s frontline soldiers, and urged citizens to support cleanliness efforts through responsible sanitation practices.

The municipal commissioner said the campaign, launched by the state government on May 22, created widespread awareness on cleanliness and brought visible improvements across Vijayawada. Implemented in four phases, it focused on eliminating Red and Yellow Spots, cleaning drains and canals, promoting scientific waste management and waste segregation, and improving sanitation standards at Garbage Vulnerable Points and public toilets.

Urging residents to turn the initiative into a people’s movement, Dhyanachandra called on citizens to uphold the spirit of “Our City, Our Responsibility” and help build a cleaner and healthier Andhra Pradesh.
