Ongole Gears up to Mark 150 Years of Municipality; Collector Reviews Development Works
The Collector stressed the need to strengthen sanitation systems, construct new public toilets and take up immediate repairs of existing facilities.

Nellore: Ongole is preparing to celebrate 150 years of its municipal establishment, with District Collector and Municipal Corporation Special Officer P. Rajababu directing officials to accelerate development and beautification works across the city.
At a review meeting with municipal officials on Tuesday, the Collector said the milestone celebrations should reflect the city’s heritage while ensuring visible improvements in civic infrastructure. He asked officials to increase public participation and awareness as part of the commemorative events.
He stressed the need to strengthen sanitation systems, construct new public toilets and take up immediate repairs of existing facilities. He also instructed the development of dedicated vending and parking zones to support small traders.
As part of the 150-year celebrations, the Collector proposed weekly cultural programmes at Gandhi Park highlighting the city’s legacy. He also suggested setting up an open-air auditorium, installing decorative balloons at key locations and designing a special commemorative logo.
Officials said the initiative aims to combine heritage celebrations with long-term urban development, making the milestone year both symbolic and development-oriented.
