VIJAYAWADA: A key coordination meeting was held at the Eagle Cell office in Vijayawada on Wednesday to chalk out an action plan for observing the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on June 26, with officials reiterating their commitment to building a drug-free society.
The meeting was organised under the directions of NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha and Eagle IGP Aake Ravi Krishna. It was conducted under the leadership of Phani Dhurjati, member convener of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Saptah campaign.
Participants discussed district-wide programmes to be undertaken as part of the anti-drug campaign and administered the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Saptah pledge.
Eagle inspector M. Ravindra outlined the proposed action plan and called for extensive awareness activities across the district. These include large-scale rallies and public awareness programmes to educate citizens about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
To encourage youth participation, essay-writing competitions and skit performances will be organised in educational institutions. Special video displays highlighting the harmful effects of drugs will also be screened, while mass pledge-taking programmes will be conducted to spread the message of a healthy and drug-free lifestyle.
Officials stressed that coordinated efforts by government departments, healthcare institutions, educational establishments and social welfare organisations are essential for the success of the campaign.
Among those present were Dr Swarajya Lakshmi, Dr Gouri Shankar of the SIMS de-addiction centre, Navajeevan Balabhavan coordinator Shekhar, social welfare representative Anil, Eagle SIs M. Veeranjaneyulu, P. Rambabu and R. Sriramamurthy, besides Eagle team members.
