Officials Genie Science Kits To 100 Schools

VIJAYAWADA: In a major initiative to promote scientific temper and hands-on learning among government school students, the NTR district administration on Tuesday distributed innovative 'Genie Science Box' kits to 100 schools, enabling students to perform experiments in classrooms without relying solely on conventional laboratories.
Speaking at a programme held at CVR Municipal High School in Vijayawada, NTR District Collector Dr G. Lakshmisha said the science experiment kits were being provided to encourage experiential learning and help students develop practical skills through scientific exploration. The event was organised jointly by the Andhra Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (APCOST), the School Education Department, Samagra Shiksha, LEAP, SCERT and Genie Science.
The Collector said the State government, under the guidance of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, has been implementing several innovative programmes such as Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings, Green Passport and the 100-Day Action Plan to improve learning outcomes in government schools.
While science laboratories are available in schools, the new portable science kits would particularly benefit students in rural areas by nurturing their interest in physics, chemistry and biology through practical experiments, he said. The initiative aims to inspire students to think innovatively and pursue scientific research from an early age.
Dr Lakshmisha noted that Genie Science has also received support from the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub, describing the indigenously developed kits as an embodiment of the Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in Andhra initiatives. He urged students to make the best use of the facilities and opportunities being created by the government to excel academically and professionally.
Earlier, an orientation programme was conducted for science teachers on the effective use of the kits in classrooms.
Addressing the gathering, APCOST Member Secretary Dr K. Sharath Kumar said the council is focusing on developing "student scientists" by encouraging children to observe their surroundings, ask questions, conduct experiments and seek scientific explanations. He said the initiative, under the State's Environment, Forests, Science and Technology Department, aims to foster scientific thinking and identify hidden talent among both rural and urban students.
Each Genie Science Box enables students to perform around 40 experiments, stimulating curiosity, research aptitude and innovation, he said.
During the programme, posters for the National Children's Science Congress-2026 were unveiled. Students aged between 10 and 17 years were encouraged to register for the event.
Regional Joint Director of School Education G. Nagamani, District Educational Officer L. Chandrakala, Samagra Shiksha APC R. Ramesh Babu, Genie Science founder Pramod Kumar and other officials attended the programme.
