VIJAYAWADA: As part of efforts to curb cybercrime and the growing menace of “digital arrest” frauds, the NTR District Police Commissionerate on Saturday held an awareness meeting with senior bank officials under the Cyber Suraksha programme.
The meeting, held at the Police Commissioner’s Office, was chaired by city police commissioner S. V. Rajasekhar Babu and attended by general managers, assistant general managers and senior representatives of banks operating in the city. Discussions focused on preventive measures, public awareness and coordinated action to counter online frauds.
Addressing the gathering, the commissioner said cybercrime had emerged as a major challenge, with offenders constantly evolving new methods despite police action. He stressed that a collective approach involving the police, banks and the public was essential to effectively prevent such crimes.
He noted that with public cooperation, nearly 10,000 CCTV cameras had been installed across the commissionerate limits, aiding the detection of several critical cases. The use of advanced technologies such as ASTRAM had also improved traffic management.
Under the Cyber Suraksha initiative, police teams have been conducting month-long awareness drives in banks, educating staff and customers on identifying digital arrest scams, online frauds and proper reporting procedures. Bank officials were informed about the Cybercrime Awareness and Prevention Portal, www.ntrpolice.in, and urged to publicise it among customers.
The commissioner appealed to bankers to act as key partners in preventing citizens from falling prey to cyber criminals. Senior police officers and about 120 bank officials attended the meeting.
