NTR District Collector Urges SHG women to Tap Nutrition Sector for Livelihoods
He said promoting natural food products would generate sustainable income for rural women while strengthening the local economy

VIJAYAWADA: NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha on Saturday urged women self-help group (SHG) members to explore opportunities in the nutrition and value-added food sector to achieve sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment.
Addressing a training programme at the RISE Centre in Guntupalli village of Ibrahimpatnam mandal, the collector said food processing, packaging and marketing offered significant scope for women entrepreneurs. The programme was organised jointly by NTR District RISE, Native Table and the Vijayawada chapter of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organisation (FICCI FLO).
The training focused on producing nutrient-rich brown eggs through natural poultry farming. Participants were trained in antibiotic-free poultry rearing, natural feeding practices, quality standards, processing methods and marketing strategies.
Dr Lakshmisha said naturally grown cereals, millets, pulses, fruits and vegetables, along with value-added food products, play a vital role in improving nutrition and strengthening immunity. He noted that eggs remained one of the most affordable sources of nutrition and appreciated Native Table's efforts to enhance their nutritional value through natural feeding practices.
He said promoting natural food products would generate sustainable income for rural women while strengthening the local economy. He encouraged SHG members to focus on quality production, branding and market linkages to build successful enterprises.
The collector said the growing demand for nutritious food products presented a valuable opportunity for women to achieve financial independence through skill development and entrepreneurship.
